Reflections of the Site Visit

This is my second attempt at this blog post.  I wrote a wonderful post but my STUPID internet disconnected just as I went to post it.  Thus I lost everything.  I have learned to write all posts in word and copy paste into the edublogs editor so that this does not happen in the future.  ARGH.

Alternative Solutions visited our client’s organization on Friday afternoon.  I had never been to a radio station before – it was a really cool experience!  The space reflects the client organization well – I think it matches their mission and organizational culture/personality well.  The space was originally an apartment.  The organization has remodeled it to fit their needs and it has a cool vibe to it.  It was also really cool to be inside the control room for a radio station while it was on the air.

Alternative Solutions met with three members of the organization, two of whom we had met at our first meeting in the classroom.  The third person volunteers for the org. working on their underwriting efforts.  She was very knowledgeable in that area and helped to clarify the importance of underwriting.  Her passion for the org. and its success was very clear and she articulated the org’s goals and vision well.

Ultimately the meeting clarified our “problem” though I think I’d rather call it partnership or something less negative…anyway our project/focus/mission is to identify how the organization can increase its committed listenership.

A committed listener has been defined as one who is engaged in the organization either through the donation of time or money.

I know that something I need to work on is focusing on questions and not jumping to solution proposals.  This is fighting my personality and a huge challenge for me.  I know that it is something I need to work on and am trying.  I am going to ask my set to help me with this.

Our set did not have the opportunity to reflect after our in-class session this week.  We did not save enough time at the end of our work meeting to reflect. I am going to champion this cause at our next meeting.
